Explore Clarkson Village

Nestled somewhere between Oakville’s trendy Lakeshore and burgeoning Port Credit neighbourhoods, Clarkson Village might just be Mississauga’s best-kept secret. If you live near the area, chances are you’ve seen or heard of most of Clarkson’s hidden gems but haven’t taken the time to really explore the area. As summer comes to a close, why not plan a “staycation” and see what Clarkson has to offer?

Food for Thought

The Pump | Clarkson Village

Let’s get down to brass tacks - a great neighbourhood is nothing without a good food scene, and Clarkson will satisfy even the most fastidious of foodies. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and brunch is a close second atKravingz, a quaint (read: highly Instagrammable) mom & pop breakfast shop. If you’re looking for no-fuss, feel-good Italian fare, the recently openedCapra’s Kitchenspecializes in the three P’s (that is, pasta, pizza, and panini) and is helmed by Chopped Canada judge chef Massimo Capra. If you think one Food Network connection is impressive for the neighbourhood, you’ll be pleased that Clarkson has a second claim to fame inMickey’s, a gourmet pizzeria which has perfected the deep-dish pizza and was featured on an episode of You’ve Gotta Eat Here.Clarkson Pump with its exceptional patio is a local staple which has evolved into something of a landmark, but if you’re looking for an evening haunt with a little more ambiance thenSolstice Wine BarorMichael’s Back Doorwill give you an unforgettably high-class experience.

History Lesson

Benares House | Clarkson Village

Part of Clarkson’s undeniable charm is the way the village seamlessly blends old and new, modern and timeless, and forward thinking with a reverence for the past. Founded in 1808, Clarkson is any historian’s delight with plenty of heritage buildings, but there are two main standouts. Benares House,  an impressive Georgian estate in a picturesque park-like setting, looks like a scene from a storybook. The villa has been restored and fully furnished with artefacts from the original owners (over 95% of the furniture in the home is original!) and was opened to the public in 1995 as a museum with rotating exhibits and displays. The Bradley Museum  is nestled in a 70-year old maple grove at the edge of Lake Ontario and houses four designated Ontario Heritage buildings buildings over the sprawling two-acre greenspace. Both centres are hubs of activity in the summer and early fall - check out their event schedules for free concerts, tea parties, and stories about life in Clarkson’s earliest days.

Be One With Nature

Rattray Marsh Conservation Area

Amid the hustle and bustle, there’s no shortage of green space to be found in Clarkson. Rattray Marsh Conservation Area  is a stunning oasis right in the heart of the village and is the perfect locale for bird-watching, hiking, outdoor photography or just to admire and take a breather. You won’t find yourself alone for long though - the area is known for the variety of wildlife often spotted. You’ll find everything from deer, beavers, turtles, and enough birds to make you feel like a Disney princess - if you’re into that. If you’re looking for a fun outing on a summer day, pack a picnic and head to Jack Darling Memorial Park for lakeside views. The enormous park has all the essential elements of summer - barbecues, two tennis courts, a waterfront trail and an off-leash dog park. The free parking is a bonus!
